5 of the scariest sleep paralysis stories we’ve heard

Sleep paralysis is the inability to move or speak as you’re waking up.

It can last for anything from a few seconds to several minutes.

And the severity of visions vary dramatically. Some are truly terrifying. Here are some of the scariest sleep paralysis stories we’ve heard:

1. White figure rocks at the end of my bed

Raji describes her sleep paralysis as ‘the scariest moment ever’.

She awoke to find herself looking at herself sleeping. As she scanned the room she saw a figure rocking backwards and forwards at the end of her bed.

2. The Old Hag

‘I am 42 and first had a nightmare about a terrifying witch at the age of 16. She kneels on my chest and stares into my face, slowly getting nearer and nearer. I am completely terrified.

‘She wears a black cloak and hood. Her face is like a witch and evil generates from her, surrounds me from her.

‘Other times, I can be lying on my stomach and she will creep her hand up the back of my head, down my face, and hook her fingers under my top teeth and pull my head back.

‘Other times, she will bite, sit on the bed, knock the door, call my name, and generally scare the crap out of me.’

3. My dead cousin was in my bed

‘So I am in my early 20’s and I use to have mild hallucinations when waking up without the use of an alarm while being unable to move. This was years ago and It never really bothered me, but it happened this morning, which was kind of my fault.

‘So I hung a jacket from the hood of a closet door on the way in front of me the night before and when I woke I saw a woman standing their with the jacket on and her back turned.

‘Somehow I assumed someone I knew was laying in bed beside me, I don’t know who. So I was trying to yell to the person beside me, then slowly the woman turns so I can see her from the side and it was my cousin, who died last year and was just starting at the mirror on the door.

‘At this point I am losing my shit, but I can’t seem to yell out. Then all of the sudden I regain movement and end up yelling “You see her right? Right? WTF is happening!” I turn and their is just a blanket laying beside me and when I look back I easily make out just the jacket hanging on my closet door. I’m still freaked out.’

4. The Grim Reaper

‘Anyone else see this guy during an SP episode? I’ve seen him once but only sensed him since.

‘Happened during my first episode, tornado inside my head followed by nothing but the colour purple in my vision. When the purple subsided, there he was coming up the side of my bed.’

5. I have sex with my sleep demons

‘Sleep paralysis started when I was 7, and it was scary. I remember the walls shaking and a ringing in my ears, going through a tunnel.

‘This continued into my teens and sometimes I felt I was battling entire groups of demons that spoke strange languages. Then I explored lucid dreaming, and following my spirit guides, until they became unpredictable and began biting me and being evil in general.

‘Then in my late 20’s I discovered that I could have sex with the beings, I know your thinking that is disgusting. I would move my hand to my private area and have an orgasm by myself, without ever touching myself, strictly in my head!!! This would immediately send me to sleep afterwords. And it has the added effect of making the paralysis enjoyable.’
