‘Vampire’ who murdered friend and drank his blood set for jail release
A Satan-worshiping murderer who stabbed his friend 66 times and then drank his blood is on the verge of being freed from jail.
Daniel Ruda and his ex-wife Manuela killed Frank Hackert in 2001 on a coffin as ‘a human sacrifice for Satan’ after claiming the devil told them to murder him.
The gruesome case enthralled Germany as details of the couple’s strange courtship were revealed.
The couple slept in graveyards and attended devil-worshipping parties.
Ruda reveled in his notoriety, even filing down his teeth into razor sharp points during the trial in 2002 so he would look like a vampire.
He was sentenced to 16 years but now a German court has ruled he can be released under his new name, Daniel Wagner.
Manuela was sentenced to 13 years for her part in the murder and has since been released from a psychiatric unit.
The couple were divorced whilst in prison.
His lawyer Hans Reinhardt said: ‘We want to show that he is not a dangerous man. In jail he takes no drugs, drinks no alcohol.
‘His mother, who is 75, visits him regularly. She has only one wish; to see her son free before she dies.’
Ruda has said he wants to find a new wife and build a new family.
However, the relatives of Frank Hackert do not want to see him released.
The Mirror reported Hermann Hackett, father of Frank, said: ‘He will be walking into a bright future and I will only be walking into the cemetery to visit my son.’
The case highlighted the growing popularity of Satanism in Germany where experts estimated there were 7,000 followers.
