June 7, 1861: Execution of the “Rainbird Murderers” at the Adelaide Gaol


June 7 is the anniversary of the execution of the Rainbird murderers, Tankawortya, Pilta Miltinda and Warretya.


The four natives, Warretya AKA Kapunda Robert, Warretya AKA Goggle-eyed Jemmy, Tankawortya AKA Jemmy Alick, and Pilta Miltinda AKA Bobby, were condemned for the murder of Mrs. Rainbird and her two children in Hamilton.


They were executed at the Adelaide Gaol in 1861.
